Freya Freya

Freya is a female Domestic Long Hair with a beautiful calico coat, and a nice fluffy tail, which resembles a raccoon’s.  She also has small tufts at the ends of her ears.  I believe her to be of Norwegian Forest Cat or of Maine Coon decent, because of these unusual characteristics.  Also, from what I have read about the Norwegian Forest Cat’s personality, Freya seems to fit it nicely.  She has a pleasant voice, and chirps are her main method of communication.  She can be very affectionate, but at the same time is not a needy cat.  Freya is very friendly, and welcomes others into our home. Also, she is very loving toward other animals.
I adopted Freya from an animal shelter as a 9 week old kitten.  She was small and skinny with a cute face and adorably long white whiskers.  When I approached her cage, which she shared with three of her brothers, she came forward immediately and chirped sweetly.  I ran my index finger along the bars of the cage and was delighted to see her stand up on her back legs and track my finger with amazement.  It was love at first sight, pure and simple.  She purred during the entire ride home, and is still just as lovely.
The name Freya was picked out before I had gone kitten searching; a few months previously I had become interested in Norse Gods and Goddesses, specifically a Goddess by the name of Freya.  She was said to have rode in a chariot pulled by two magnificent cats, and represented love, beauty, and cats.  Her personality was said to have mirrored the animals she so admired – she was loyal to those who fought for her, and transported slain warriors to Folkvang in her chariot.  Also, Freya was known for loving fairies.  Around the same time I became interested in Norwegian Forest Cats, since they are believed to have been the cats that, in myth pulled Freya’s chariot.  It just so happened that the kitten I chose turned out to be a Norwegian Forest Cat look alike!
